Building our Stamina!

Building Stamina is a crucial part of readers workshop. We practice often to see how long we can read our books without being disrupted or disrupting others. These kiddos have been a great group and we continue to grow and increase our time. In order to build our stamina, we have discussed three ways to read: reading the pictures, reading the words, and retelling the story. Just look at how tuned into reading they are!

Spirit Week

This past week was Spirit Week! All my little friends dressed up as their favorite rock star or celebrity. Can you guess who we are?

LOOK!

We read Look! Look! Look! by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace in our writers workshop today. In this book, the mice learned how to look at art through different textures, colors and shapes. This was a great connection which lead to discussion of mental images or "pictures in our heads". We decided to find a bubble spot and create our own mental image of items we see in our classroom.
Kayla creates her image of items she finds in the classroom and writes a description of each one.
Mason creates his image of the ceiling vents blowing air as it gushes on him.
Paige creates a picture of our alphabet wall.
Corbin creates his own mental image of our popcorn word wall.
